Dog Sport Fitness Program Director
Kathy started her formal training to become a dog trainer in 2013 having the opportunity to train with some of the top instructors in the country. She attended six weeks at the Michael Ellis School for Dog Trainers learning Michael’s methods for training competitive obedience, puppy foundations, and play/motivation skills. She completed Trish King’s Academy of Dog Behavior, Level I and II, Andrew Ramsey’s Train the Trainer Nosework courses, and has attended numerous seminars with top trainers to keep honing her skills. Most recently she has attended Training Between the Ears seminars with Mark McCabe learning his tremendously powerful behavior modification program.
Her journey to learn about canine conditioning started several years ago. She became interested in conditioning stemming from her own training and participation in triathalons. Knowing that proper conditioning improves performance, and prevents injury for humans, she wanted to pursue this education for dogs to help them see the same benefits. She became a FitPaws Master Trainer in 2015, then became a Certified Canine Fitness Trainer (CCFT) through the University of Tennesee. Seeing the benefits of a conditioning program for all dogs, from pets, to sports competitors, has made Kathy an advocate for conditioning being part of all dog’s lives.
She lives with her two Belgian Malinois, Kimber and Ruger, and her senior beagle, Molly. Her dog training business, K9You, focuses on canine conditioning and nosework classes and seminars. She competes in, and has titles in nosework and rally, and is the conditioning trainer and support for Ruger who competes in dock diving.
